Billing for iSTAT Creat

If anyone has a contact in your organization with billing knowledge, we’d appreciate some help. We want to know: if you use an iSTAT in your imaging department for creatinine prior to contrast studies, are they billed with a QW modifier? Any feedback is appreciated!

If they are using the creatinine only cartridge, then yes you would use the QW modifier as that cartridge is waived. We bill that way for all 3 Radiology sites.
Thank you, Terry! This is very helpful.
Curious - what is a QW modifier? Never heard that term before with regard to billing.
James, It's a modifier CMS requests to indicate a test is waived. I don't think it's used if a payer is not a government payer.
