GEM 5000 Screen Freeze

Has anyone ever had their GEM 5000 Screen freeze, at all or more than once?  Deeming the instrument unusable until the screen unfreezes...

It doesn't happen very often, but I've been able to resolve it with a restart.  If you can't get to the menu to do it via the Actions option, you can just hold down the button on the back.  Good luck!

when you restart it, don't you lose/waste a cartridge?  do you do a shutdown?

No, I think the analyzer won't kick the cartridge out until after 60 minutes.  If I can't restart via the menu, I just do a hard shutdown using the button on the back of the analyzer.

How long have you had this GEM?  and do you know how many times the screen has frozen?  Do you contact Werfen about it?

We have 12 GEMS throughout our hospital.  We've had them for almost 3 years.  I've probably had a screen freeze 4 or 5 times, but not on the same analyzer each time so I didn't do a service call.  If you have one analyzer doing it repeatedly you might consider calling service.

thank you Angie.  Do you use GEMWeb Plus middleware?  if so, does Werfen apply the new certificate every year or someone in your IT department?

Yes, we use GEMWeb as our interface.  We've had issues with getting the certificate applied so we get a warning message everytime we log in that the certificate is expired.  Werfen says our IT department needs to do it and our IT department says it's something Werfen needs to do.  :)

we are experiencing the same issue with having the new certificate applied.
