Rapid Point Blood Gas and CAP guidelines

Does anyone use the Rapid Point Blood Gas system by Siemens?
If so I have some questions, this just got transferred to me and I am now trying to ensure that we are complaint with CAP rules and I need some help.
The CAP checklist CHM.34400 Daily QC Blood Gas Instruments---
My understanding is that the Rapid Point does autoQC level 1,2,3 every 8 hours is this sufficient for CAP or do they need to be doing an external control also.  I was told that they only do external liquid QC on a rare occasion.
I need someone who can help me navigate this with the rapid point.
Thanks in advance

I have used RapidPoints previously.  The AutoQC absolutely meets the CAP requirement.  We only run external QC when the M cartridge is changed.

Hi Melva, we do not have and IQCP in place for our Rapidpoints, so we run the external QC monthly.  If you are only using the auto QC, you may need an IQCP.

Ashlee - I was told you do not need an IQCP because the AutoQC meets the daily QC requirement  due to pathway the QC takes within the machine while it is running so it is considered external to the machine eventhough it is "attached" to it. I confirmed this with both CAP and Siemens.  We do not have an IQCP and have never had a problem with inspection

The cartridge-based AQC is, just like the external QC form and satisfies CAP standards. We do not have an IQCP. We only run external QC for troubleshooting purposes.

The built-in AutoQC definitely satisfies the QC requirement.  IQCP however is only absolved if the manufacturer states that the QC follows the same analytical path as a patient sample, which most blood gas manufacturers will proudly state if it is true about their product.
We use a cartridge-based system (not Siemens) as well and although external (vial) QC is not a requirement per the manufacturer, we opt to do it to satisfy the CAP requirement around pre and post reagent/lot change assessment.  It's only once a month and is very easy to do.

Thank you to everyone that responded.  I now have a direction to go in.
