HA1C and Glucose Management Indicator (formerly estimate A1C)

Has anyone run into complaints from Endocrine providers who think that their lab or POC A1C don't match the GMI close enough? I'm getting communication from the providers saying that the 2 should agree within 0.5 but based on the little research I've done myself, this is not true. I'm finding that it might match or it might not - they are not directly comparable. Any help is appreciated!

However, in our call with Siemens they stated they are checking all of their lots, going back 2 years. I have heard from some other POC folks that they have seen bias with lots that weren't in the notification. Per Siemens, if they discover other lots that were affected, they will send out that information. I'm expecting to get their report by Friday at the latest. Since we still have not received paper or electronic copies of the original notification at any of our sites, I don't have a lot of faith in the notification process. If there is anything on the report of note, I'll post it here.

Latest information from Siemens: there were additional lots affected. I've attached the notification that we received. As far as I know, none of our clinics or distributors have gotten the previous notification.

Thanks Kathleen. Same here as far as to date, none of my affected testing sites/clinics received notification from our distributors (I was told by a Siemens regional employee that it was not up to Siemens to distribute the info, it was up to distributor who sols us the product).

Yes, we were told the same, but as far as I know none of our distributors received the original notification--we notified them.

Agree! I've had one distributor - Fisher - step up to give credit for what we did not use/pulled so boxes were not opened. The other distributor replied that they did not ship an affected lot# but they did not list the lot#s shipped on the shipping notices so we have to take their word for it. Yet I cannot resolve where all the boxes came from (shipper) so not able to get credits for all the boxes removed from use.
Thanks Kathleen for keeping us posted.
