One of our clinicians would like us to add BD Affirm to provider performed POCT. I would appreciate any and all information you could provide. Do you have experience with this test? What are the pros and cons? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi! I have experience with the BD Affirm as a main laboratory test. Not as point of care. The test is moderately complex, with numerous steps including incubation time, so we didn't implemented it in the point of care setting.

As far as pros and cons…

Cons - As stated above, numerous steps, with several different reagents. There is an incubation time in the heat block. Loading the reaction well can be confusing for some users so plan for extensive training.

Pros - It is a good solid test, the instrument is older but, sturdy. It would be really hard to damage it.

Hi Amanda,
Thanks so much for your reply. I appreciate it.
