iSTAT PT/INR on Stroke Patients

Good morning!

For as long as I can remember I was told/under the impression that using the iSTAT PT/INR in the ED on stroke patients was considered off label use. Now that we are switching to the PT Plus cartridge and I am verifying that we cant use it on stroke patients. I am unable to find the information to back that up.
Does anyone know where I can find the information proving the iSTAT shouldn't be used in the ED? Or on the contrary, are others actually using the iSTAT in that way?

Morning,
Its intended use is the in vitro measurement of the PT to aid in the monitoring of patients receiving anticoagulant therapy with coumarin derivatives.

The issue with the i-STAT PT/INR cartridge isn't with stroke patients, but that the patient has to be on Warfarin (Coumadin) therapy, or the test is off label.  I don't know if the new PT/INR cartridge has the same limitation, but I believe it does.

Linda and Roxanne are correct.  The issue is the intended use of the instrument and test.  "The i-STAT® PT/INR test is a whole blood determination of the prothrombin time used for monitoring oral anticoagulant (Coumadin or warfarin) therapy."-this is from the Abbott product insert. 715236-00S.pdf (globalpointofcare.abbott)  That is from the FDA and what the FDA has cleared the device and test for.  It can't be used for screening, which would be for stroke patients.  Emergency room providers see it as a fast way to get a PT/INR, when the STAT turnaround time from the Lab should be able to provide both PT/INR and aPTT in lest than 20 minutes.  Radiology and Stroke Protocols | vRad Turnaround Times
