Eurotrol CueSee Hyperbaric

Hi, I am currently experiencing difficulty in getting the PO2 values to fall within the range using Eurotrol Hyperbaric QC with i-STAT using either CG8+ or EG6+ cartridge.
I am getting low PO2 values. For example, if the range is 574-758 I am getting 535mmHg.
I tried using different i-STAT analyzer, different lot of cartridges, different lot of QC material, tested in controlled environment and all other variables. Also, I followed the instructions exactly as suggested but I am still not able to get the PO2 value to fall within the range. If any of you have experienced similar issues or have suggestions, techniques I can follow please help!! Thank you.

The trick with the Hyperbaric is to use a syringe with a needle attached. Draw up what you need, avoiding any extra air entering the syringe. Do not debubble the syringe prior to placing the control into the cartridge. Any extra air movement in the syringe will drop the value. We manage to run 2 cartridges per syringe using this method.

Do these cartridges require any pO2 correction for elevation like the EPOC does?

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one with this issue (identical values). However, I was able to get ours to work with the CG8+ but not the CG4+.  I do not have any tips to correct this because we tried everything using the CG4+ cartridges. I am going to follow to see if anyone else has advice that I have not tried yet.

Are you getting the range from the room temperature or the instrument temperature? We had an issue the last time we used Hyperbaric and I believe we used the room temperature. There was only 1 to 2 degrees difference at any measured time but it made enough of a difference for the QC material to pass.

We had the best luck using 1 cc syringes instead of 3 and a max of 3 cartridges.  We also double team, one person fill and another immediately close the door and insert.   Room temp definitely an issue so choose the right range based on that and make sure no direct AC blowing on the area where testing.

Debra Howard - I am going to try that. I only use one cartridge per vial. Thank you for your reply.
Jake Fray - They do. But we are not located in elevated area. Thank you for your reply.
Tiffany Stewart - Omg. I feel seen. It is extremely frustrating. Thank you for your reply.
Jennifer Cochran - I took external temperature. I actually warmed up the room using heater since they say you will see better co-relationship with higher temp.Thank you for your reply.
Ivy Douglas - I am going to try that. I only use one cartridge per vial. Thank you for your reply.

I lowered my reportable range on the iSTAT  pO2 to 400.  So now the highest Tri-control calibrator is good enough for AMR.  I struggled some with the hyperbaric.  I did a review of 2 years of results, and we never reported a patient that high so was able to lower reportable range.

Hi Riya,

This is one of my babies (the products) I brought to market when I was at Eurotrol. (-:

Great suggestions above.  I would only add that the Hyperbaric QC demonstrates a high degree of temperature sensitivity.  So you really want to control temp as much as possible.  If you have access to a water bath, that certainly would help, but you definitely want to temperature correct.

Hope this is helpful!

Patsy Gunn- Yes that is definitely something we are considering as well. But I wanted to see if I was doing something wrong or if there was a trick get it to fall within the range. Thank you for your reply.
Bill Donohue - It was working just fine until it didn't anymore. I am going to try water bath. Thank you for your reply.

This information is helpful- we will be using the both the hypobaric and hyperbaric solutions for the first time this Cal/Ver cycle.
Thank you all for sharing!
Tilly

I have loved reading all of the feedback. I would like to add that I have never had any trouble with this control until this past lot. (Hyperbaric Lot# 164-2-B315). However, I did not think that it was the controls that were bad since they worked perfectly on the CG8+ cartridges for me.
