Hi all,

Does anyone use both Medtronic HMS+ as well as iSTAT for ACT testing in your organization?

If so, what do you use for method comparison testing?

Thanks for your help!

They aren't a direct comparison. I had this word document saved in my files. I've been looking up on this as well. A concordance study would have to be conducted. In the past, sensitivity and specificity of the two platforms were conducted but there was always a disparity in the results. I'd love to hear what other facilities perform

We perform the HR-ACT on the HMS Plus and ACT-K on the ISTAT.  We use either patient samples in real time or doctored up samples made from blue tops that we add CaCl2 to right before running. We use a 12% acceptability. I actually want to increase that acceptability a bit between the 2 platforms as we do have some that correlate more like 15% difference.

We have the i-STAT Celite ACT and also the HMS HR-ACT in use in our facilities. Comparison, especially the iSTAT being celite and the HMS being Kaolin, is tricky, but we use the total allowable error designation of 20%.  They typically match within this limit. We use fresh whole blood samples.
