Glucose meters

We are suddenly being "dropped" by Abbott, unless we continue to pay list price.
Apparently, a small hospital (260-270) is not worth Abott's trouble of negotiating a new contract.
AND this is a quote from the Contracting Manager.  Buyer beware!

We are looking at Roche and the Nova meter in the upcoming week.

Please list your pros and cons if your institution is using either of these.
Nova also wants to give us their NovaNet which connects to Unipoc.

Thanks for any advice.

Tammy the newer Nova StatStrips glucometers were approved within the past few months by the FDA.  I'm not aware of Nova even really publishing this yet out-side of informing those who have been inquiring about it.  The newer version will have a rubberized outer shell that is far more resistant to damage among a few other upgrades.

The rubberized shell on the latest model will be a bit of a game-changer.  I wish ours had it!

We currently use the Nova Statstrip with WiFi and wired connectivity with RALS and Novanet.  Our Wifi works very well- the meters receive larger chunks of data when in the dock and using the wired connection.  We have a message display on the meter every 4 hours that states docking is required.

Thus far we only input our QC/Strip lots into NovaNet-  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Patsy, do you have any more information regarding the CPT code being higher reimbursement? We are looking at transitioning to Nova, and this would be good information to add to our presentation.

HI
Small community hospital just under 100 beds.  We have the older NOVA StatStrip meters and RALS 7 plus years and both work seamlessly.  We opted not to get NOVA Net due to the cost of adding 2 (live & test) servers ...maintenance etc.  It was my understanding that NOVA Net is primarily needed for updates to the meters but most meters. (Spoke with NOVA support and was told it wasn't absolutely needed - as we only have the glucometers interfaced) All the work is done in RALS - QC, lot management and operator certifications. T

I think the critically ill issue is being abused by Nova in its sales pitches. This is an issue that shouldn't have to be addressed by switching to the one manufacturer that has managed to get through the painfully slow FDA process of approval. I know that Roche has submitted studies for approval as well. No doubt other companies have.
Nova Net is also the worst middleware I have ever used. The report module is especially problematic. Managing user certifications is not friendly.
-1 for Nova
Sorry to be the negative one in the room on this one.
