Medtronic HMS Plus Letter

Hello Everyone.  Today I got an email from Medtronic stating "the HMS PLUS system is no longer being manufactured" and has "decided to implement End of Guaranteed Service".  We have been using this system for decades for our Heparin Assay/Protamine dose test in our CVOR.

Does anyone use an alternative system for Heparin Assay/Protamine reversal?

Ivy, for the ACT we use/have been using the Hemochron system.  For the HMS plus, we use it for the Heparin Assay/Protamine reversal only.  I am wondering what (if any) alternatives there are.

Thank you for sharing this!

What is everyone going to switch to in CVOR?  It looks like the i-Stat ACT for me.  There isn't a lot of choices.

This article is from 2020. Does anyone use a Hemochron Response? It says one of its capabilities is heparin/protamine dosing system:

Anticoagulation Monitoring During Cardiac Procedures: Considerations for Anticoagulation Safety | SCAI

There are quite of few hemostasis management devices on the market - however none of them do what the HMS Plus does. A skilled clinical team [surgeon, anesthesiologist, perfusionist, etc.] will be able to make adjustments to their protocols without the HMS Plus but definitely with less comfort. Hopefully we see a replacement product in the near future. Thank you @Theresa for posting the letter.

@Danielle the Hemochron Response is no longer supported by the manufacturer for parts, reagents or PM's - it has been discontinued.

Is there any alternative beyond manual calculation?
