Lancet expiration dates for glucose meter users

We are working on a process to assure lancets used for glucose meter testing are in-date. How are you managing this?

Does anyone know of lancets that have the expiration date printed on each individual lancet?

thank you,

Hi Pam,
Sorry no, we have not found a lancet manufacturer which has it's expiration date printed on each lancet (or if inpatient nursing did, the cost was prohibited by the value analysis team).
If we cannot use the entire box in a testing site due to low volume number of fingersticks, then we do 'share' in several testing sites but we keep the lancets in a container that is labeled with the product name, lot# and expiration date.

PS I tried to dig out a lancet expiration question that I feel sure was on this listserve a while back and was unable.

Medichoice Pressure Activated Lancet made by Owens & Minor

Jennifer - hey thanks!
Our distributor used to be Owens & Minor but now isn't so betcha that's how this gem got missed so far (where I work).

Thank you Peggy!

Jennifer - Thanks for posting this product information!

There was a post from a while back and there was a company that had lancets that had expiration dates on them. I will see if I can find the information/thread.

The title of the previous post was "Lancet Storage". They are from MediChoice.

thank you Lori!

I know this topic has been discussed several times, but can someone share the regulation or standard that requires this?

At MLH in Pennsylvania, we also have found lancets with manufacture date printed on each lancet and have educated staff that the expiration date is 5 years from the manufacture date. This education is now part of the annual CBT:
