Nitrazine Reference Range

Anyone performing Nitrazine testing... how do you report it out (Pos/Neg or Rup/Non-Rup) and what is your reference range?

Our OB providers have a drop-down choice between: Negative (pH<7), Positive (pH>7), Equivocal.  Reference range is Negative (pH<7).

We report out as positive or negative and reference range is
• Normal: Negative = Indicative of the absence of amniotic fluid
• Positive = Indicative of the presence of amniotic fluid

Please refer to the package insert of the product that you are using, you can decide how to report the result base on the package insert or manufacturer instruction.

Sincerely,
Alma

Our providers report Positive or Negative, with Negative being a pH <7, and Positive being >7.0. The policy stated Equivocal being a pH of 6.0 to 6.5, but I honestly don't know if that is even a choice for them. I'll have to look into that.
On a side note, does anyone have great success in getting the providers to do their competency? This is my biggest chore as POCC!

No advice, just solidarity on the absolute chore of getting OB providers to do their competencies!  They push back every single time.  Then I come around with CAP proficiency samples and it's like I'm asking them to run around the hospital 3 times.
