HMS Plus interface

We’re in the process of interfacing the HMS Plus with our LIS and EHR. Our interface flow is: Device >Telcor >Sunquest >EPIC. The device is connected via Lantronix and runs HR-ACT, HPT, and HDR tests.

Questions:
  •  Anyone with the same setup willing to share a printout of patient results from your EHR? Which test components do you set to release to the EHR?
  • Do you hold flagged results in TELCOR for review before release? If so, who releases them—POC or does the Perfusion team have access?
  • Any tips or best practices when bringing up this interface?

Thanks in advance!

Please share your process when you have implemented it. This is my long term dream to have the HMS interface with EPIC. I will greatly appreciate you sharing your process and experience so that we can also embark on this journey.

Sincerely,
Alma

Khanh,  Alma,

We have 3 HMS Plus analyzers in our CVOR as POC.  They perform: HR-ACT, HPT (4 different color variants), and HDR tests.
  • The data flow is HMS Plus to Lantronix to Telcor QML to Epic.  Getting the Lantronix box settings correct is probably the most challenging part we had in setting this up.  We continue to have issues with the interface with these specific analyzers due to two reasons.
    •  IT occasionally modifies firewall settings which impacts them (suspect them being on the lantronix boxes plays into this).
    • Staff in the OR's unplug the data lines from ports and plug in a Da Vinci.  I also suspect that IT reconfigures the port at that time because it won't work on the dedicated port for the HMS... so when they plug the HMS Plus back in it doesn't work.
      • Staff plug the data line back into the wrong port in the wall, again the port is specifically setup for the Lantronix box.

I'll email you screenshots of the Lantronix box settings and QML data received from the analyzers and what is pushed out TO Epic (scrubbed of PI)

Welcome

We are in process of interfacing our HMS's through Telcor and onto Epic.  We are going to report in Epic:
ACT: ACT Average
HDR: Baseline ACT and Slope
HPT: Hpt Pt Test Conc
All other parameters that come over on patients and QC will be held in Telcor.
We are going to stop any results in Telcor that give the >12% flag.  POC Lab will be reviewing those and communicating with Perfusion - they do not have access to Telcor.
