Epic and POC

For those of you who may be using Epic as your HIS/LIS - does anyone utilize this platform for tracking or performance of POC QC, maintenance and function checks for devices, or things of that nature?  I am trying to find a way I can have people that run QC for POC tests can log their results directly into Epic instead of keeping manual logs out in a bunch of units.  Not sure if that is even doable on Epic but hoping someone has some tips/tricks.

Hello,

While that is a function utilized by lab techs, I’m unsure if that QC function would be available for end-users on other units.

They utilize a different EPIC program depending on their specialty (I.e we use Beaker in Lab, but there’s things like EPIC CUPID for cardiology, Radiance for Radiology, etc.) that all look completely different and would not have QC pages accessible.

We used protocols in Epic for documentation of manual tests such as Occult Blood. The provider would order the test "Occult Blood, Stool - POCT", then this test would appear in the nursing Outstanding List. The nurse would select that test and choose Enter/Edit results. There would be 3-4 things the nurse needed to enter by selecting from a dropdown menu : 1. Test result, 2. Card Expiration Date, 3. QC Dot result, and when they are finished they need to change the status from "In Progress" to "Final" then click Accept.
I was able to pull reports from Epic monthly to review all of the manual test data and create quality reports by nursing department.

With that said, if you have Nova glucose meters then adding all of your manual test entry into the glucometer would be vastly superior to this process.

Good morning Silka, I am curious about the manual documentation, does your process for enter/edit have the reference ranges/address attached to the results?  Are these shown on the reports as well?  Are there options to select or do they need to type everything? We currently use flowsheets for manual data and wondering if this solution is easier for the end user and better compliance.  Thanks for the info.
