Hi
Does anyone out there use the Alere/Abbott™ iCassette™ Dx Urine Drug Screen? If so, please let me know your thoughts.

I'll take other suggestions as well for products you like! Waived only please

We have used the Alere/Abbott iCassette Dx Urine Drug Screen quite successfully for 10+ years. The levels of detection have proven quite sufficient for utilization in the ED setting. We have also used the waived McKesson Consult version with equal clinical success and, in our experience, a little less expensive. (I believe that the chromatography paper for both is manufactured by the same third party.)

We are adding the waived McKesson Consult Fentanyl cassette (level of detection = 1.0 ng/mL) with the Kovatox Detectabuse Control set. (Abbott has their version. Again, McKesson Consult is generally a little less expensive.)

The only negative I can speak to for any of the Abbott and McKesson products is that due to the competitive binding nature of the reactions, the development of a color line indicates a NOT Detected (below threshold) finding ... counterintuitive outcome. Once you can get that point driven home to testing personnel, it should serve you well. They are quick, reliable, and easy-to-perform.
