Avoximeter 1000E to ABL90 comparison?

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has had to do a method comparison recently for their avox to the lab's radiometer abl90? What did you use? In the past we've used RNA Medical CVC223, but that no longer works on the new radiometers. The last few years we've used CAP samples for our MCs, but this time around the shipment was lost in the mail and we had to come up with an alternative. I've been digging around but I can't seem to find anything I could use on both. Haven't tried the ABL90 cal ver on the avox, so I could look into that, but checking to see if anyone out there has any other ideas. Thanks!!

We don't have an ABL90 (our respiratory department uses the GEM5000s). However for comparison studies with the Avox we use patient samples.

We do not have ABLs either. I am not sure if this will help, but Eurotrol has Coox controls for the Avox and ABL Flex 700/800 series.

I think the reason we've always used purchased material is get results across the range

You can order another sample from CAP. They usually sell them for off cycle or they can even replace it for a little fee.

I use the API Blood Oximetry Verification Program and patient samples - heparin syringe, not heparin tubes (heparin tubes have too much heparin for the Avox...your comparison will fail!). For the patient comparison, mix really really well by rolling between open palms, devices should be right next to each other, run the Avox first, then waste a couple drops from the syringe and run on the ABL.

Hi Sonya, I'm the Product Manager for Eurotrol and our CueSee CO-OX controls are compatible with both Avox and ABL instruments.

We use patient samples to do our method comparisons. In the past we used the iSTAT but could not attain the 7% (now 4%) agreement so we now use the ABL.
