Venous Blood Gases/Lactates

Who draws your Venous Blood Gases/ Lactates at your facility? Phlebotomy or Resp Therapists?
Are your lactates performed in your main lab or only on POC instrument?

**Currently our phelb's draw the venous for our RT staff to perform on our ABL90s. We are going LIVE with EPIC, and since our lactates are unsolicited, they have not figured out a way to create a dummy task to send to the phelbs to be able to collect the specimen. It is only showing on the RT task list.

Our phlebs draw VBGs except in ICU and NICU (nurse & RT decide between each other who will draw).  We ran into the same task list issue and now all non-intensive care VBGs are still drawn by phlebs, but are now sent to lab.

We have Epic and it is set up that lab collect floors have lactic orders that the phlebotomists can see and access on Rover. Those go to Main Lab. Nurse collect floors have lactic orders routed to nurse or RT collect. Those are done on POC instruments.  It is a mix of who actually collects those - RN vs RT.

We are 2 months into being live with Epic.  Phlebotomy collects our VBGs and Ion Calc and sends to Blood gas lab for RTs to run.  A build is in place for the unsolicited order to go to the Rovers, but it does not work.  Has anyone with Epic been successful with an unsolicited order going to the Rover?
