Does anyone use the Istat for pleural fluid pH?  If so, which cartridge do you use?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Autilia!

Yes, we use the iSTAT for body fluid pH and we use the EG7 cartridge. We chose that because we also do iCa in the lab with the iSTAT and that cartridge contains both.

I don't think there is any cartridge approved for pH testing of fluids other than blood on the iStat, that would probably need to be a core lab test or something like a pH paper. The iStat is approved for arterial and venous samples with some capillary clearance changes taking place earlier this year, pH of fluids would end up an LDT under current cartridge IFU's.

I thought as much- LDT for both I-stat and ABL90.  We have a Roche Cobas 221 that we maintain only for the pleurals.  Thanks all for your responses.
