Could anyone provide me with some information on the VerifyNow instrument? We have had a request for it at our facility and I don't know anything about this instrument or testing. Do you have the instrument as POC or is it run in the main lab? Proficiency testing? QC? Any issues? Really just any information you could provide would be helpful. Hi Ashee! My name is Scott McMullen, and I am a POC Specialist with Henry Schein. The VerifyNow test is a point-of-care moderately complex diagnostic tool commonly used to assess platelet function. I have listed the purpose of the test for you below along with types of test's as well.

Platelet Function Testing: It evaluates how well platelets are functioning, which is crucial for proper blood clotting.

Monitoring Antiplatelet Therapy: It helps monitor patients on antiplatelet medications, such as aspirin or clopidogrel, to ensure they are responding adequately to treatment.

Assessing Bleeding Risk: The test can be useful in determining the risk of bleeding in patients undergoing certain medical procedures or surgeries.
Types of Tests:

Aspirin Resistance: Assesses the effectiveness of aspirin in inhibiting platelet aggregation.
Clopidogrel Resistance: Evaluates the response to clopidogrel, a common antiplatelet drug.

Sample type: Fresh whole blood (venous)
Time to result: in minutes (varies by assay)
