Struggling with newest generation Nova StatStrip meters

New installation last month.  Biggest problem is some results won't post to epic for hours up to days... I think it's narrowed down to the meter vs the NovaNet servers.  Anyone else with NN, RALS and Epic seeing these issues or know of a possible resolution?

Yes we are NN to RALS to EPIC.  RALS is definitely not the problem with this one.

We are using QML and have experienced armband/barcode scanning issues since May of 2024. We were able to set Novanet to scan the Aztec (QR) code on the armband in addition to the linear barcode and this helped reduce the scanning errors significantly. After reading this thread, I am leery of switching to the next generation meters. I would like to hear from someone that uses QML, if they are experiencing the same issues as the RALS users. In addition, the Rep told us the scanner has a brighter light which should help with scanning. THnks

We use QML and are having the same scanning issues.  Since we use the HAR instead of the CSN as the patient/sample ID (long story) and our wristbands have the CSN as the QR code, we cannot use the QR code.  We have set barcode masking in NovaNet to not scan any QR barcode, but it still happens.  We also get the "scan" as the ID come across.  We have also gotten much feedback about the scanner not working properly at all and giving an error tone instead of scanning so the user has to reboot the meter to get it to work.  We have the NovaNet 5.0.0.0 and have been told upgrading to 5.0.0.3 would benefit us and that there are 5.1 and 5.2 versions coming as well.  The issues are not with QML/Telcor/Rals, etc.  The issues are both the meter and the NovaNet software. I would definitely wait to switch to the Gen 2 meters until these bugs have been worked out.  We had a rolling go-live starting in March and finished in July across multiple facilities and clinics.  It has been a challenge to say the least.

Appreciate all the feedback.  Definitely going to think about this decision going forward.
Would you all say this is more of a wireless issue?  I saw some posts where the wired meters were having issues and wondered if they were the new ones?  reason I ask, is I thought all the new ones were wireless.

We use QML middleware for all our Glucose testing.  We are a Novanet to QML to Clinisys (SunQuest) to Epic system.  All results are unsolicited.
We have 2 hospitals using the new meters, the newest went live on 11/09/2025.  We are NOT wireless at this time.  That will be a phase 2 activation.
We have been experiencing meter lockup issues, but that seems to be getting better.  We have also experienced the issue where QC is being required more than once a 24 hr period even though set to 24 hrs in Nova.  This has also gotten better.
We are not experiencing the long delays in resulting that some of you describe...just a delay at times.  We were told today by Nova that we need a new ICP server.  They believe this will help with all of the issues I have described above as we are 290 meters on the one server.
For the first time today, I see and exception in QML where the meter put the word "Scan" in as the patient ID.  I mentioned this to Nova and they told me they had never heard this before.  I told them there were several on this Listserv that say they've seen it!

Has anyone else seen this strange phenomenon:  Bottle of strips been opened a day or two, working just fine.  All of the sudden when the barcode is scanned an error is thrown and will not accept the strip lot.  Grab a new bottle of exact same strip lot number and it works just fine.  We've now had 2 bottles that have done this.  Of course, Nova says they have never seen or heard of this either.

Martin...I did have an incident where the meter wouldn't accept the strip lot. I double checked in NOVANet, and everything was in correctly. I thought it was just a 'bad bottle' of strips. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Sounds like NOVANet needs a major overhaul.

Hello POC friends,
I am bringing this conversation back up as we are similarly experiencing numerous connectivity issues with the new gen 2 Nova glucometers.  Wireless was problematic so we reverted back to hard-wired; however, are still experiencing connectivity issues.  Has anyone found the magic solution to mitigate the connectivity issues?  Thanks for your insight!  Nichole

The answer for us would be no, we are still experiencing problems with connectivity.  What firmware are you on?

Thank you for your rapid response.  We were on version 1.3 and are now on 1.4.  Sounds like Nova is also working on versions 1.5, 1.6., 1.7 and maybe 1.8??

We are working on replacing our current 1.86 meters with the New Next Gen 2.0 meters are experiencing wireless connectivity issues.  Currently, we are on firmware version 1.5.  We did not experience as many issues when using firmware 1.3.  We are planning to revert to using the 1.3 firmware while Nova is working on the next version.

Has anyone had success with the Next Gen 2.0 meters with the 1.3 firmware?

We went live on April 13, 2026 with the Gen 2.0 and are on Firmware 1.3 and Telcor. We are having connectivity issues where the meters just don't connect after multiple tries at redocking and rebooting sometimes helps. They show undocked in Novanet >24 hrs. more frequently and staff are complaining of delayed charting of results. We have 110 devices on one server so I don't think the server is the issue. We have already replaced 11 docks and 7 meters. The pins on the docks are getting bent easily and the meters will shut off randomly and not reboot. There are so many issues with these that it is hard to pinpoint one cause. My feeling is that the components in the docks and meters are not as good. I have reached out to Nova and they are escalating to leadership. So we will see what comes of that. The only improvement I can see with these is the barcode scanner is much better.

Hi Everyone,  Sharing that there is a recent Nova Gen 2 StatStrip urgent medical device recall in case you are not aware already.
This is very concerning.
