Laboratory Director Designee Statement

Hello!

For waived testing, if a laboratory director delegates assessing competency to someone, does that person need a designee form filled out each year? Additionally, do they need to have competency assessed each year if they are not performing patient testing?

Thank you!

Generally delegation assignment is performed once.  CAP allows delegation to be by name or title so if your policy is generic and says anyone with these qualifications can be a competency assessor then you don't have to have a specific person's name.  Additionally, whoever has been delegated responsibilities will need to be annually competency assessed for those tasks that have been delegated to them.  This is different than testing personnel competency.

If your competency assessor does not perform any testing ever, then they do not need to have testing personnel competency.
