Critical Documentation on the GEM 5000

Does anyone currently have users document criticals in the GEM 5000 analyzers? Is there a way to hold the results in the GEM until the user acknowledges the criticals and types in documentation, before the results cross into the EMR?

What EMR do you use at your site?

We use GEMWeb+ as our interface for GEM 5000 results and there is a setting that requires a critical value notification before results can be accepted (which then pushes them to our EHR).  In GEMWeb+ you go to Config >> Area >> Notification Setup and then select Mandatory Notification of Critical Results.

Can you get the interface to hold it until a certain field is completed?
Does RT enter the information directly into the instrument?
When does the GEM release the test results to the interface?
I am not familiar with the GEM and its data entry capabilities.

Our facilities document the critical notification in the EMR when they verify the results. We use EPIC so they complete a communication log documenting who they called the critical value to prior to being able to validate the result for release.

Angie, this is what we are looking for! Do you have a predefined comment built in the comment? Or can the user type in what they want?

There is a Notify button at the bottom of the results screen.  When the operator selects it, they get a screen that has fields for Notified By, Notified To, Notification Time, Notes, and a checkbox for Read-Back and Verified.  I think this is a standard screen for the GEM, not something we designed.  I'll try to post a screenshot below.

Thanks so much for the information! This is just what we were looking for

I didn't realize there was a screen for this- thanks Angie! Will look into this for us. Currently, we have canned comments in the PreDefined Comments section and then they have to type in the full name in Enter Comment.  Here's what we have for predefined comments. We have them differentiate if they gave the results printout or if they called the results which requires the read back.
