Urine Culture Criteria after POCT UA

Can anyone share with me the criteria they use for when to send a Urine for Culture once it is dipped for a POCT UA. Also, do you normally have staff "pour" off the urine prior to dipping the strip? What is the process for urines with low volume?

We don't have a policy for when to send for urine culture. We leave that up to the providers. The staff are trained to pour a small amount in a separate medicinal cup to keep original sample sterile in case a culture is ordered. If there's not enough for both an UA and culture staff are also trained to consult with the provider which one they'd prefer or they'd need to recollect if both are needed.
We automatically transfer urines into gray top tubes for every urine specimen collected for which a culture might be required. Once the POCT UA is completed, the urine is contaminated and can no longer be sent for a urine culture. This initiative has led to a major decrease in our rate of contaminated urine culture results.
