Does any one use the Abaxis Piccolo and seem to have trouble with the level one control not reporting out the Sodium? It seems we have this same issue every month that we run it. We try to open new bottles, get a new lot of QC, and sometimes order new QC from company. We can get it to come in most of the time after a lot of troubleshooting and repeats, but I just don't understand why we have so much trouble with it every time. Level 2 always seems to pass just fine. All other parameters on level 1 pass fine also. It is only Sodium we get the ~~~ result. Any help is appreciated!
The Sodium fails because you are outside the measurable range and your "~~~" indicates that. Try running in QC mode which has an "extended" reportable range. We encountered the phenomenon with BRT and NovaOne controls for Level 1 Sodium. In my experience, you don't get the ~~~ nearly as frequently for QC mode.
Unfortunately the problem is that we run the QC on the Piccolo with an Epic barcode so it is ran on the analyzer under a patient essentially. I guess we would just need to decide if we want to continue having the issues but still run through auto verification with it or if we want to run in QC mode and manually input the results into Epic. Hmmmm
