Atago PAL-10S Digital Refractometer for Urine Spec. Grav.

Good Morning,

At our facility we are going to be transitioning to a digital refractometer for our urine specific gravity testing.  I was wondering if anyone currently uses the Atago PAL-10S device and if so, what they are utilizing for daily QC and the annual calibration.  Per package insert it only states that "zero-setting" be performed each day of patient testing and upon changing of batteries.  Currently with our traditional refractometers, we have them run 3 samples for daily QC; a DI sample, a 2.7% saline solution, and a 7.5% saline solution.

In addition to QC, the calibration report included in packaging is good for 1 year after the manufacturing date.  What are you using for the annual calibration?

Thank you so much,

Matt T

You can continue using your saline solutions for daily QC. We are using Quantimetrix Dropper QC 1 & 2 and DI water for zeroing.

As for the annual calibration, we are using SVT Specific Gravity Calibrators at 1.005 & 1.030. Cat # 118 and website www.sciteck.org. Phone # 800-749-4537.
