ABG Syringes (Backorder issue)

Hello!
I am not sure if other facilities are experiencing the same hardship as us, but the syringes we used for ABGs are on backorder until June 2026.... Our Respiratory team is now trying to find alternatives to utilized or alternative testing methods. So far most alternative syringes won't work because they have too many cc's of heparin and aren't big enough to gather enough blood to dilute the heparin in the syringes. As far as alternative testing methods we were thinking of bringing on the iSTAT as a backup method. Our current method we are using is the GEM Premeir 5000.
Has anyone else been experiencing these issues as well? What syringes or samples do you use for ABG's?

Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,
Same issue here. We got PICO 70 syringes with balanced heparin from Radiometer. This should work.

Im curious if your hospital is also using the Pro-Vent 3ml syringe. We are also backordered for this company syringe.

Just found out about this today.  Because we are pediatrics we like the 1cc syringes but I'm interested in hearing any alternatives folks are coming up with.

So far we haven't been able to find any alternatives.. Most other syringes either don't have the appropriate additive or have too high of concentration of heparin.. :/
