Could anyone share experiences for the following questions:
1. What glucometers do hospitals use for neonates?
2. What does your policy state regarding sending a confirmation to the core lab?
3. Do you have any information regarding the difference between POC whole blood glucose and serum/plasma lab glucose methodology?
4. What processes do you have for the collection of POC Glucose and/or collection for lab glucose competencies? Is this something that is overseen by the POC office, nursing educators, etc?

As far as methodology, I think it would come down to what platform your core lab uses. You would have a validation for both your whole blood glucose and plasma/serum glucose and any results should be interpreted with the ranges determined by that.
For competency, because a POC glucose is waived, we send out a quiz annually and then have users recertified in our middleware by performing both levels of QC. We use Telcor for that and our POC crew is in charge of it. We do often have nursing educators help onboard and train however! For anything in core lab, that is taken care of by the technical specialist in those areas.
Hope that helps!
