Glucometer Test Strip/QC Dating

We use the Nova StatStrip meters and are having an issue with the open and exp dates rubbing off and/or smearing on test strip and QC vials. Hospital admin is big on not using tape, so placing a piece over the dates is not an option. What do you do to keep these dates legible? Is there a pen or marker that works best?

Hi Carol. We had this same issue and we purchased permanent labels with date open and expiration date spots on them. They came from pdc. Product number MV02FP2184. These are now stored next to our glucometer supplies for caregivers to use.
We also started using a separate sticker to document open/expiration dates. We purchase ours through Market Lab (part number ML7839) and that has helped mitigate the smudging issue.
As others have already mentioned, a separate sticker is the way to go. However, I want to mention that we use self-laminating stickers that have a separate, clear flap attached to them that you peel the backing off of and stick on top of the sticker after you write the open/expiration dates on it. We've found that the date will still wipe off of or fade from stickers that don't have that extra protection.
