CRRT Blood--iSTAT

Hi all,
Just reaching out to see if anyone performs ionized calcium testing on CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy) blood on the iSTAT. One of our physicians from Peds Nephrology has been very interested in it, but we were hoping to gain some insight on how other facilities are classifying this sample type on the iSTAT and how the results are distinguished within the EMR. We will be transitioning to Epic this Fall.
Thank you!

We are a large health system and at our pediatric facility, we have much the same process as Debra described. Here is how it currently appears in Cerner - clearly identified as a CRRT sample.
We perform CRRT samples on the iSTAT using the CG8+ cartridge. Your LIS team along with your middleware team should be able to work on this for you. We use Epic Beaker and RALS. On the instrument you would have to customize the sample type customizations. As long as they select CRRT, only the ionized calcium will report to that order, if they accidently select ART/VEN/CAP/OTHER it will result under the full CG8+ order we have. This does happen rarely and we correct the chart with a safety event. If you have additional questions feel free to email me at soguzman@luriechildrens.org
