POCC Volume and Staffing Information Requested

Good Morning,
I am trying to get an idea of how many staff members POCC's oversee compared to the volume of POC tests performed. If you are willing to let me know how many staff members are dedicated to Point of Care and what your total testing volumes are I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank You,
Kelly VanWagner MLS(ASCP) SH

We have 2 Point of Care Coordinators at my facility and 1 tech that dedicates 0.2 of her FTE to off the bench days for POC.
Testing roughly per month is 6500 tests.

Thank You So Much

Kelly,
This is going to be heavily dependent on the number of test system, waived vs non-waived and how automated your system is in addition to number of users and tests.
We are highly automated, (for example: the waived systems automatically update users access *if* the user completes the steps correctly).  We also have "SuperUsers" that are RN's (grandfathered), RT's, Perfusionists and Dr's out on the floors that sign the skill-checks to recertify.
At our primary facility:
  • We have 4 waived and 5 non-waived testing systems in POC in use.
    • ~2,650 waived users, all having different combinations of access.
    • ~300 non-waived users, all having different combinations of access.
    • ~45K tests per month
    • 3.5 FTE counting myself

Thank You! This is very helpful.

I am a team of less than one (getting around 0.35 FTE in POCT, covering the main laboratory the rest of my FTE due to labor shortages) with:
  • 7 non-waived test systems, 10 waived
  • 1400+ waived test operators
  • ~200 non-waived test operators
  • ~14K tests per month
  • no superusers

Kelly, it would be good to know if you are a single hospital or a system. In our case, we are a system and have 16 hospitals, over 100 clinic and urgent care sites, 4 freestanding ED/UC sites, and some commercial POCT clinics. We do over 1.5 million interfaced POC tests/year, and we can't really determine how many manual tests since they order supplies on their own and not through us. we have over 10,000 operators. We have a manager, 3 supervisors, and 23 tech FTEs.
