Nova StatStrip Student Access

Judging from the lack of responses, no one is allowing nursing students access to do glucoscans at other facilites????

My facility doesn't use the Nova StatStrip meter. We have Accu-chek Inform II glucometers. For our nursing students, I attend their facility orientation class where I introduce them to the meters and show them a training video, then I have them answer a quiz pertaining to the meters and proper fingerstick procedure. After they complete the quiz, I have them run QC and a mock patient on the meter (using training solution). They are given student ID numbers from HR and that is how they get access to the meters once I train and check them off. I certify them for a 6-month access period and if they need to extend their time after that, they can perform a direct observation competency check with me or one of the nursing educators. Hopefully someone more familiar with the Nova StatStrip can provide further insight. 

We do not allow students independent access. Just like in the lab if a student is does a differential, it needs to be supervised by the employee and released under the employee's name as having verified the work.
