Does any know of a handheld Glucometer that is not interfaced, CLIA waived and able to be used in a hospital setting?

you can always setup the glucometer to be interfaced or not. We have the nova glucometers, in our main hospital it is interfaced and in off sites it is not interfaced. We see it in the middleware system qml but it doesn't pass into epic. You can set it up that way. 

We use the Nova Biomedical glucometers and they're still functional during downtime. It's nice because results for already admitted patients automatically flow to the chart following the end of a downtime event. If we're unable to generate new chart labels, then those patients are tested using a downtime barcode and manually documenting the results in the chart. What issues were you having specifically?

Nova also makes the Statstrip Xpress Glucometers which are not interfaced, we use them for our outpatient clinics. I'm sure there are other options as well. 

Agree with Teresa, connect with NOVA for advice because you can use your meters without connectivity and capture data for interfacing later.  Instead of working up and supporting another platform, if you want a non-interfaced glucose meter use the StatStrip Xpress for it uses the same strips and QC. 

We usually do not have any issues during downtimes. This time was different. We had no phones, no internet, no Epic, etc. for 2 days.  But they would not connect to our servers with Wi-Fi or a hardwire ethernet. Once the meters did not connect for 4 hours, they were requiring to be docked and not letting any users into the meters. How often does everyone else have the "Dock Required" setting set for?  We even turned it off in Nova and it still was requesting it on some of the meters, " Dock Required." 

Ohhhh I don't have a dock lockout set, that makes sense that it would be a problem if it was and we couldn't connect. Out of curiosity, why do you utilize the dock lockout? We're using wi-fi too, so I've been wondering if it is mostly utilized for ensuring proper resulting without wi-fi?

This set up was way before my time here with Nova interface.  So, I guess now we know. 

We have Nova meters interfaced through RALS and use them during downtimes.  The units are just instructed to document manually until the system is back up.  When it comes back up the meter transfers all the results into the patient charts when docked/connected to network.  We have them set up to require docking at 8 hour intervals, however we only have it set "notify" on docking event. This allows the message to display on the meter stating that the meter needs to be docked but still allows the meter to be used without this occurring.  

If you wanted something totally offline, Nova makes a StatStrip Express meter.  Uses the same reagents.  

Nova Xpress meters that utilize the same strips and QC as the StatStrip meter.
